With the holiday season in full swing, there's not much time left for procrastinators and last-minute gift buyers. In the spirit of making the holidays less hectic, Outlook has compiled a list of OHIO-themed gifts for those still searching for the perfect present.
Holiday cookies
Cookies are always a sweet gift, and there's still time to buy Santa's favorite midnight snack from Ohio University Catering.
A baker's dozen of holiday cookies costs $6. For more information, contact the catering office at 593-4035 or through its Web site at www.facilities.ohiou.edu/food/extsrvs_banquetandcatering.htm.
Ohio University coverlets and throws
Classified Senate is offering Ohio University-themed coverlets and pillows. Proceeds will benefit student scholarship funds and educational programs.
The coverlet, measuring 50 by 69 inches, features pictures of 21 historic campus buildings. It's available with a light cream or hunter green background and costs $50.
The pillow presents a colorful rendition of old Baker Center on one side and New Baker University Center on the other. Marked with the same border as the senate's previous bicentennial pillow, the new pillow can be easily added to make a set. The pillows cost $25 each.
"I think it's a really nice idea for people who are alumni or for students who want to give their parents something," said Cathy Sitko, an administrative associate in the reference section of Alden Library. Sitko, a member of the Classified Senate, oversees coverlet and pillow orders.
To order, visit the Senate's Web site, www.ohiou.edu/csen/historic_coverlet_pillow.htm, or contact Sitko at 593-2701 or sitko@ohio.edu.
Ohio University wooden ornaments
Printing and Graphic Services is offering the Buildings of Campus Signature Ornament Series. Pieces are engraved by a laser and showcase building and university heritage designs.
The building designs feature the oldest and newest buildings on campus -- Cutler Hall and Baker University Center. Heritage designs include a Bobcat and a paw print.
This is the first year the Buildings of Campus ornaments have been offered. The Heritage designs were introduced last year. Pieces are available at the Bobcat Essentials storefront at Baker University Center 417 or directly from Printing and Graphic Services by calling 593-1930. Ornaments cost $15 each, or $50 for the set of four.
Ohio University Press books
Is there a better way to enjoy a cold winter day than curled up with a good book? For the reader on your holiday gift list, check out the selections of Ohio University Press at www.ohioswallow.com.
Jeff Kallet, marketing associate for the press, suggested "Album Quilts of Ohio's Miami Valley," by Sue C. Cummings. Packed with illustrations, the book costs $20.
He also recommended "The AIA Guide to Columbus," which details significant buildings and neighborhoods in the Columbus metropolitan area.
Kallet characterized the book, written by Jeffrey T. Darbee and Nancy A. Recchie, as "an awesome gift" and said it would be a wonderful selection for anyone who enjoys architecture.
Other books that made Kallet's list were the "Ohio Amish Mystery" series by P.L. Gaus and "Out of the Woods" by Ora E. Anderson.
For a complete list of Ohio University Press' books and purchasing information, visit the Web site. A 20 percent off sale is under way, Kallet said.
Bobcat IDEA
Check out the Ohio University Alumni Association's December 2008 e-newsletter at www.ohioalumni.org for more gift ideas. The association's link to the Bobcat Store reveals a plethora of university-themed gifts such as sweatshirts, tote bags and hats.
Bobcat Essentials
Still undecided? Check out the Bobcat Essentials store, fourth floor, Baker University Center.
"My favorite thing in the store that we have right now are the wooden crafts," said Bobbi Napper, a manager and the student coordinator for Bobcat Essentials. In addition to the Buildings of Campus Signature Ornament Series by Printing and Graphic Services, there are mantle clocks and other wooden items. Other items include OHIO mugs, jewelry and apparel.
Bobcat Essentials closes for the holidays on Friday, Dec. 19.
