As part of its annual training requirement, the Ohio University SWAT team will begin conducting exercises Monday.
SWAT team Commander Eric Hoskinson said the team will be on campus Monday, Wednesday and Friday at either the Central Classroom Building or Bryan Hall. Members of the university community or the public should not be alarmed if they see members of the team in combat gear as they arrive at the buildings.
The team will be reviewing building entries and exits, navigation of stairwells, and reviewing procedures on how to recognize armed suspects in a crowd. The team also will bring in Southeast Ohio Emergency Medical Service (SEOEMS) personnel to assist with first aid training. Additionally, members will review and update response plans for incidents on campus.
Hoskinson said the team will spend the other two days in Albany practicing marksmanship and reviewing scenarios for shooters on campus.
Hoskinson said signs will be posted on buildings where exercises are taking place. He added that anyone with questions should contact him.
"We are happy to answer any questions – we want to be approachable," he said.
