Dean of Students Ryan Lombardi regrets to inform the Ohio University community that one of our students, Eric S. Hansen, who fell from a window late Tuesday at Weld House, has passed away.
Hansen, 20, was a sophomore in the Russ College of Engineering and Technology. He was from Seven Hills, Ohio, near Cleveland.
Police believe that Hansen fell from the upper-half of a fourth floor residence hall window.
"Our deepest thoughts and condolences go out to his family and friends during this difficult time," Lombardi said.
At the time of his death this afternoon, Hansen was being cared for at Grant Medical Center in Columbus.
Lombardi said counselors would be available at 6 p.m. tonight at the Weld Seminar Room on the ground level of the residence hall.
Students can also call Counseling and Psychological Services (CPS) at any time to speak with a counselor. That number is 740-593-1616.
University police said they are continuing to investigate the incident. Anyone with information is asked to call the department at 740-593-1911.
Calling hours will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday, May 3, at the Busch Funeral Home, 7501 Ridge Rd., Parma, Ohio. Funeral services will be held Monday, May 4, beginning with 10 a.m. prayers at the funeral home, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Columbkille Church, 6740 Broadview Rd., Parma.
