Lunchtime learning
Faculty Commons kicks off spring quarter programming

Apr 15, 2009

The Faculty Commons Fridays lunchtime discussion series returns this quarter, starting Friday, with the theme "Spotlight on Experiential Learning." According to series organizer Laurie Hatch, director of the Center for Teaching & Learning and professor of sociology, this quarter's focus on experiential learning was suggested by a variety of faculty members across the university.

Held at noon each Friday from April 17 through May 22, the popular series kicks off with "Academic Learning through Informal, Participatory Writing," facilitated by Sherrie Gradin, professor of English and director of the Center for Writing Excellence and Melanie Lee, assistant director.  This discussion will begin with a brief overview of informal writing to learn strategies that enable active student participation, and can be applied to any class in any discipline.

Faculty Commons Fridays begin each week at noon in the Friends of the Library Room on the third floor of Alden Library, and participants are encouraged to bring lunch. Coffee, tea and cookies will also be provided.
