Revisions to Ohio University policy 44.113, which establishes the university as a smoke-free environment as defined by state law, were approved March 10.
The changes outline measures the university has taken to comply with Ohio's revised smoking law, which has been in effect since Dec. 7, 2006. The university was a non-smoking campus prior to those changes, but the revised law has a number of new provisions, including the prohibition of smoking in university-owned vehicles or near university buildings.
Director of Environmental Health and Safety Joe Adams said the revised policy now reflects current practices on campus, which have been in place since the law was changed.
