Custodial services to change next week
The following statement has been issued by Steve Mack, director of buildings and grounds, regarding a new schedule for cleaning services this academic year as a result of position eliminations in Custodial Services. The reduced services take effect Monday, Sept 10.
Statement from Director of Buildings and Grounds Steve Mack:
Custodial Services has developed a new schedule for cleaning services this academic year as a result of position eliminations that followed this year’s budget deficits. The changes go into effect Monday, Sept. 10.
Due to budget cuts and reallocations, Custodial Services lost 21 positions this year and 38 over the last three years.
Full services will continue in restrooms and classrooms, which will be maintained daily, Monday through Friday. In other areas, workers will perform fewer tasks or reduce frequency. Below is a brief summary; details for specific buildings are posted on the Facilities Web site at http://www.facilities.ohiou.edu/fm/.
Areas that will see reduced service:
- High-traffic common areas (lobbies and main hallways) will receive some minor reductions in service -- most notably in the frequency of buffing and carpet cleaning.
- Low-traffic common areas (emergency egress stairwells and back hallways) will see major reductions in service frequency. Tasks such as spot mopping, sweeping and dusting will take place monthly.
- Office areas will experience the most noticeable reduction. Cleaning will take place twice a week. Tasks will include trash removal, recycled-material removal and spot vacuuming. During summer quarter, Custodial Services will provide an annual deep cleaning for offices, including flooring work (carpet cleaning or recoating hard surfaces).
