Emergency medical care policy updated
Oct. 5, 2007
The president recently approved an updated version of Ohio University Policy and Procedure 44.112, "Emergency Medical Care."
The prior version of the policy was drafted in 1991, well before the Athens County 911 system was in place.
The revised policy states that telephone calls regarding minor medical emergencies should be directed to the Ohio University Police Department, while calls dealing with serious medical injury on or adjacent to campus should be placed to 911.
It also specifies that all Ohio University Police Department patrol cars are to be equipped with an automated external defibrillator and full first-aid kit. Designated Athens County agencies, such as Southeast Ohio EMS, remain responsible for providing suitably equipped ambulances and properly trained and certified emergency medical technicians.
