Avoid e-mail scam on campus

Mar 31, 2008

An e-mail scam has targeted some users of Ohio University's Oak e-mail system.

Office of Information Technology logs show 3,234 users received an e-mail on Monday asking them to e-mail their Oak username and password to "Ohio Webmail Support," according to Sean O'Malley, OIT communications manager.

OIT currently has filters in place to prevent recipients from replying to the original scam message; however, some individuals may have replied before the filter was enabled. Those who sent their username and password to the reply address should contact the OIT Service Desk at 740-593-1222 as soon as possible.
