John Kotowski, who has overseen more than $500 million in capital improvement projects during his nearly 32 years at Ohio University, has announced he will step down as associate vice president for facilities effective Sept. 30.
Kotowski's current duties include oversight of all university facilities and campus services units and supervision of all facilities planning and construction projects on university-owned property. For much of his career, he has managed and coordinated the university's space, land and capital improvement planning.
"I just felt it was time to do something else after 32 years on the job," Kotowski said. "I have been extremely fortunate to work so long with so many great people at Ohio University. I'm not sure what I will do next, but I look forward to taking on new challenges."
After joining the university in 1976, Kotowski's first task was to oversee the renovation of several West Green buildings that would house the university's new osteopathic medical school. He was promoted to director of facilities planning and construction in July 1984 and to assistant vice president for facilities planning and construction in July 1999 before accepting his current position in June 2006.
A Cleveland native, Kotowski earned bachelor of science and bachelor of architecture degrees from Kent State University. He also studied architecture abroad for several months at the University of Firenze in Italy.
