From staff reports
FOX and The Palestra.com -- an online news source aimed at college students -- are hoping to draw an evening crowd to Baker Center as well. The pair will host a student-oriented election watch party beginning at 5 p.m. today.
There will be large-screen TVs tuned to FOX election coverage, live music by the Columbus band Smalltown Sleeper, a DJ, giveaways, information on the general election/candidates and free food. The event will be streamed live on FOXNews.com, FaceBook.com and ThePalestra.com.
Through a network of on-campus reporters (including Ohio University students Lynn Walsh, Greg Glasser and Megan Weasel), The Palestra -- Greek for "a public place for training and practice" -- collects, produces, packages and distributes audio and video content about college life.
"People seem to be really interested in voting there," Dawn Durkot, a senior producer with The Palestra, said of what prompted the Ohio University event. "The purpose is to get students interested in the election and the vote. Throughout the course of the evening, we're hoping to draw about 700 students."
