Forums slated for Baker Center/University Events candidates Aug 14, 2008
Open forums are scheduled with candidates for position of executive director of Baker University Center and university events.
Candidates and forum details:
- Sujit Chemburkar, director of the Student Union at Truman State University, will meet with the campus community at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 18, in Baker University Center 242.
- The Aug. 21 open forum with Corbin Smyth, assistant director for leadership development at the Indiana Memorial Union at Indiana University, has been canceled.
- J. Scott Derrick, director of student activities and director of the University Center at Furman University, will meet with the campus community at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 28, in Baker University Center 240.
Some candidates have already visited. Bill Smriga met with campus July 9. He is the director of Memorial Union and the Beach/Schmidt Performing Arts Center at Fort Hays State University. Julia Wingard, former senior director of the University of Toledo Student Union, met with campus July 16. She is working full-time on a doctor of education degree in leadership at Bowling Green State University. James Cox met with campus on July 21. He is the assistant director of the University Center at the University of Memphis.
The executive director will oversee Baker University Center and supervise the Office of University Events, bringing a cohesive vision to units that are critical components of campus life and university-community interaction. This is a new position that will report to the vice president for student affairs.
