Air Force ROTC cadets honored Jan 18, 2008 By Lt. Col. John Coulter
Ohio University's Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps had the second-highest number of cadet awards among 144 detachments at a recent commanders' conference in Atlanta.
Three of the university's cadets were honored:
Cadet Greg Smith earned the Order of Daedalians Colonel Charles W. Getchell Memorial and Daedalian AFROTC Scholarship, which recognizes the five most outstanding pilot candidates in AFROTC. Smith is due to commission as an Air Force pilot in June and graduate with a degree in industrial and systems engineering. This past summer, he was a cadet training assistant (CTA) at field training and ranked second of 28 CTAs in the Air Force.
Cadet James Erkard received the First Command Educational Foundation Scholarship Award, which recognizes cadets with good moral character and varied interests as demonstrated in academic and student activities. Erkard is due to commission in June 2009 and graduate with a degree in mechanical engineering.
Cadet Jonathan Cozad earned the United Services Automobile Association Scholarship Award, which recognizes leadership, organizational ability, teamwork and academics. Cozad is due to commission in June 2009 and graduate with a degree in civil engineering. He was recognized as one of 35 Air Force cadets who was selected as a CTA for field training next summer.
