The Ohio University Forensics Team won the Ohio Forensic Association State Championship this past weekend at Ohio State, bringing home 46 awards.
Dan West, the university's John A. Cassese Director of Forensics, reports that among those awards was the Trithon, or individual sweepstakes, earned by sophomore Dan Glaser, making him the top speaker in the state for the second year in a row. Glaser also took first in Varsity Informative Speaking.
Other top finishers were Ted Dacey, state champion in Varsity Persuasion, an honor that earns Dacey the opportunity to represent Ohio University at the Interstate Oratorical Association Tournament in Madison, Wisc., in late April, and Dan Leister, who finished first in Novice Impromptu Speaking.
The team's regular season is winding to a close. In two weeks, it will send small teams to the Lafayette College debate tournament and the District VII American Forensic Association Qualiying Tournament. West said he is hoping for a top showing at the Novice National Tournament at the University of West Florida in March.
