Workplace violence policy updated Feb 19, 2008 Staff Reports
Changes to Ohio University policy 41.135, which identifies a range of unacceptable behaviors by employees (including threats, acts of intimidation, harassment and violence) and establishes procedures for dealing with violators, were approved Feb. 4. The policy takes effect 30 days after approval.
The revised policy now includes sections detailing confidentiality and public records procedures in regard to investigations into an alleged harassment; consequences of filing a false complaint; how sanctions resulting from a complaint can be applied; and the university's practice of indemnification in matters relating to reporting a complaint or cooperating in an investigation.
Director of Employee and Labor Relations Linda Lonsinger said these sections were added in order to mirror recent case law on retaliation and to clarify what an employee should expect if involved in such an investigation.
