Polar Bear Plunge set for Saturday Feb 13, 2008 By Eva Simeone
Phi Kappa Theta Fraternity, Ohio University Police Department, Ohio Women's Club Soccer and Delta Zeta Sorority will participate in the Polar Bear Plunge, Saturday, Feb. 16, to benefit Special Olympics Ohio.
The event calls for members of all four teams and others to dive into the wintery waters of Dow Lake, located in Strouds Run State Park, for charity as part of "Freezin' For A Reason 2008," a statewide fundraiser.
As of Feb. 13, the teams had raised nearly $4,000 to date with the OUPD team ranking first with $1,895. Phi Kappa Theta ranks second with $1,040. OUPD Sgt. John Stabler leads the individual fundraising competition with $895.
Saturday's event will be the fourth of nine Polar Bear Plunge events held from Jan. 26 to March 8 across the state to benefit the more than 22,000 Special Olympics athletes in Ohio.
