Ohio University's Kennedy Museum of Art and Athens' Dairy Barn Arts Center are collaborating on a new program that allows family members of all ages a chance to make art together and work with an artist.
This week, the Third Thursdays Family Night will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Kennedy Museum of Art's Christine Demler Brown Center for Art. It will focus on the School of Art Faculty Exhibition now on display at the museum.
School of Art faculty member Julie Dummermuth will lead families in a project that is both artistic and communicative. Children and their parents will cut, glue and assemble special envelopes and letters that will be sent to schoolchildren in New Orleans. The Ohio Arts Council will provide materials and postage.
"Art can be a connective tissue between people and communities," Dummermuth said. "This project creates both art and a social exchange."
The program is funded in part by the Ohio Arts Council, an organization that encourages economic growth, educational excellence and cultural enrichment.
