Feb 6, 2008
By Eva Simeone

Ohio University's 2008 Sibs Weekend promises something for everyone, including a full slate of music, sporting events and games this Friday and Saturday.

"Sibs Weekend is always one of our most popular and well-attended family weekends," said Anne Lombard, Ohio University assistant vice president for student affairs and director of campus life. "I think our students are always excited to show their siblings their home away from home, so I anticipate this being a very lively and exciting weekend."

Here's a brief look at some of the scheduled events:

FRIDAY

The Sibs Weekend Variety Show, sponsored by the Black Student Cultural Programming Board, is scheduled for 8 p.m. in Baker University Center Ballroom. General admission to the show is $5, while admission to the show and after party is $8.

At 8 p.m. both Friday and Saturday, students and sibs can catch Comedy for the Masses Presents: SIBStacular, a sketch and stand up comedy show. Admission to the event in Seigfred Hall's Mitchell Auditorium costs $2.

The Ohio University men's hockey team hosts Kent State at Bird Arena at 7 p.m. Friday and 7:30 p.m. Saturday. Admission is $5 for Ohio University students and those under 18 and $7 for others.

SATURDAY

Both the men's and women's basketball teams host Mid-American Conference opponents at the Convocation Center on Saturday. The women's team plays Eastern Michigan at noon, while the men's team hosts Western Michigan at 2:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased by calling the Athletics Ticket Office at 740-593-1300 or 1-800-575-CATS.

RecFest 2008 is set for 2 p.m. Saturday at the Ping Center. Students and siblings can enjoy inflatable games, crafts, face painting, tattoos, food, prizes and more for the entire afternoon. Admission is $6 for all attendees other than Ohio University students.

Hillel, located at 21 Mill St., will host a Havdalah service and make pizzas at 6:30 p.m. Saturday.

The annual rap/hip-hop Sibs Weekend Concert featuring Jagged Edge, Fabolous and Ohio University alumnus Jesty Beatz will take place at 8 p.m. Saturday in Templeton-Blackburn Alumni Memorial Auditorium. The concert is hosted by the Black Student Cultural Programming Board and tickets are $20 for Ohio University students and $25 for others.
