Andy Goodhart, a senior Honors Tutorial College political science major, has been selected as a reserve candidate for the Marshall Scholarship. He was a finalist out of the nearly 900 candidates who applied this year, earning an interview with the British Consul-General in Chicago. He was selected out of the finalists as a reserve, meaning he might still earn a Marshall should someone be unable to accept their slot.
"It is an accomplishment to be designated as a reserve candidate," said Honors Tutorial College Dean Ann Fidler. "It's an eyelash difference between someone who is given a scholarship and someone who is named a reserve candidate."
Goodhart is pursing a combined bachelor's and master's degree in political science. He has studied abroad extensively, most recently as a Boren Scholar in Jordan. He also serves as president of the Ohio University chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union. After graduation, he hopes to work for government in the area of national security.
