Outdoor space use policy updated Apr 30, 2008
An updated version of Ohio University policy 24.016, which provides guidelines for use of outdoor spaces on the Athens campus, is complete and online.
Based on concerns brought forward by students, Vice President for Student Affairs Kent Smith convened a group of students to review the outdoor space policy. The students presented an initial draft of the revised policy to Smith in October and worked in collaboration with Smith, the Office of Legal Affairs and others in Student Affairs to craft the final policy.
Smith expressed his appreciation for the students’ work. “I was pleased to work with this group of dedicated students to revise this policy in the best interest of the campus community,” Smith said.
The most prominent of changes in the policy allows individual students and others affiliated with the university to reserve outdoor spaces. The former policy only allowed registered student organizations and university departments access to these spaces.
Other changes include the addition of Baker University Center’s first- and fourth-floor entrances and fourth-floor table spaces as areas governed under the policy.
