Internationally acclaimed human rights activist, writer and author Richard Lapchick will speak about racial equality in sports at 7 p.m., Monday, April 28, at the Convocation Center. His speech is titled "Sports: A Bridge Across the Racial Divide."
An expert on sports issues, Lapchick has been described as "the racial conscience of sport." He is the founder and CEO of the National Consortium for Academics and Sports. He also was a co-founder of the Hope for Stanley Foundation, which organized groups of student-athletes to go to New Orleans to work in the reconstruction efforts of the city's Ninth Ward.
In addition to being a regular columnist for the SportsBusiness Journal and ESPN.com, he has written 13 books and appeared numerous times on "Good Morning America," "Face the Nation," "The Today Show," ABC News, NBC Nightly News, CBS Evening News, CNN and ESPN.
