Committee seeks campus participation for Climate Commitment
June 15, 2007
The Ohio University Ecology and Energy Conservation Committee (EEC) is seeking participation from faculty members regarding Ohio University's participation in the Presidents Climate Commitment. More information about this commitment can be found at www.presidentsclimatecommitment.org.
The essence of that commitment is a multiphase process:
- year one: create an inventory of all annual rates of greenhouse gas emissions
- year two: create a plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions on campus across all possible sectors
- ongoing: Include students, faculty and staff in the planning, implementation and education process.
Part of that commitment is for all participating universities to commit to weaving sustainability principles into their curriculum. The EEC Committee met on May 16 to brainstorm ideas to help Ohio University down this path.
The committee decided to form a one-year subcommittee and is asking all university colleges and schools to designate a representative who will help facilitate greenhouse gas reporting and dialogue regarding sustainability and curriculum development.
Anyone interested in participating in this yearlong task force should e-mail Assistant Professor of Environmental and Plant Biology Kim Brown at kim.brown@ohio.edu. The committee's goal is to identify the members of the task force by July 1.
