Suspension of employment actions for classified staff extended
June 5, 2007
A suspension of employment actions involving classified nonbargaining positions that took effect in late April on all six Ohio University campuses will continue at least until July 31.
Gwen Brooks, director of staffing and records for University Human Resources, said the suspension, which was expected to be in effect through June, will remain in place longer because budgets may not be finalized until July.
The suspension of such actions as hirings, position re-evaluations, transfers, promotions and demotions is necessary for UHR to administer its process for assisting classified employees whose positions are eliminated. These steps include searching through existing vacancies and determining classified employees' retention points -- a scale that factors years of service and an employee's status as either full- or part-time.
"We'll be working to assist affected employees by identifying and coordinating appropriate placements prior to initiating the displacement process," Brooks said. "Our ultimate goal is to get our existing employees placed with as little disruption as possible through this process."
Brooks said classified employees with questions or concerns should call members of the UHR team at 740-593-1636.
