There's still time to pick up your updated Ohio University ID card before the fall quarter rush, and now, more locations at which to do it.
The Office of Information Technology is continuing to issue new cards to all faculty, staff and students on all campuses throughout the summer and the beginning of fall quarter. The new cards have updated designs and no longer carry Social Security numbers on the magnetic stripe.
Incoming students receive their ID cards during Precollege orientation in the Multicultural Center on the second floor of Baker University Center. Employees and continuing students also may get their cards at the Multicultural Center from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday until Aug. 11. Employees and continuing students also can stop by HDL Center 154 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday for new cards throughout the recarding period.
Leo Chimo, marketing manager in the Office of Information Technology, said that while the recarding project itself has been going smoothly, walk-in demand has been less than anticipated.
"We haven't seen as much walk-in traffic as we had expected, so we know there are a lot of people on the Athens campus who still need new IDs," Chimo noted. "The first day new IDs were available was incredibly busy, but traffic has since slacked off."
As of Tuesday, nearly 11,000 ID cards had been processed. That includes cards for walk-ins to the HDL Center, regional campuses and transfer students who attended Precollege last week as well as pre-printed cards for students returning to the residence halls.
Returning students and employees who will be away from campus during the summer can acquire new cards when they return to campus in the fall. Students returning to residence halls will receive new cards as part of the check-in process upon receiving their room keys.
University employees and students living off-campus can obtain cards from Sept. 4 through 14 at the Information Desk on the fourth floor of Baker Center. Beginning Sept. 17, everyone will need to visit the HDL Center 154 in order to receive a new card. That also is the last day old IDs will be accepted at the Ping Center and Alden Library.
New ID cards for all regional campus students and employees have been printed and delivered to each campus' ID card office for distribution. A list of specific locations is available at http://technology.ohio.edu/idcards/where.html.
There is no charge for employees or students to get an updated card, and some form of official photo ID is necessary. Individuals will be required to turn in his or her old ID card before receiving a new card.
