ST. CLAIRSVILLE, Ohio (Jan. 22, 2007) -- The painting exhibit, "The Tradition of Portraiture," by Lisa Sten will open in the Ohio University Eastern Campus Art Gallery, Monday, Feb. 12 and run through Thursday, March 8. A reception honoring the artist will be from 6-8 p.m. on Feb. 12.
"The exhibition of this collection of pieces represents a transition for me into the next phase of my life," says Sten. "My priority and passion the past couple of decades has been the raising of my children. Through their childhoods, I have followed them with camera and paintbrush, enjoying the freedom in painting my own children to experiment with various styles and techniques. This show is comprised of these efforts."
Sten earned her bachelor of fine arts degree and Pennsylvania teaching certification from Edinboro University in Edinboro, Penn. She continues her education through workshop instruction in oil, pastel, and watercolor media.
The bulk of Sten's career consists of painting commissioned portraits. Her portraits hang in hundreds of private homes and many public institutions including Butler County Community College, Butler Area Senior High School and WISR radio station in Butler, Penn. Sten also competes in national and local shows where she has won numerous awards, displays her work at art festivals, and teaches classes in portraiture with a focus on anatomy.
