ATHENS, Ohio (Jan. 16, 2007) -- Lawrence Gingerich has been named interim director of Environmental Health and Safety, effective Jan. 22. He replaces Charles Hart who is retiring on Jan. 19.
Gingerich has been the hazardous materials coordinator at Ohio University since 2003. He has also taught courses in hazardous materials technology and environmental engineering technology at Ohio University Chillicothe.
Hart has been director of Environmental Health and Safety since 2003. Prior to that, he was the university's environmental safety coordinator from 1984 to 2003. During his tenure he served on many committees, including the Institutional Biosafety Committee, the Institutional Animal Care Use Committee and the Radiation Safety Committee. He was also the Employer/Union Safety Committee chair from 1984 to 1996.
A permanent director should be named by July 1.
