ATHENS, Ohio (Jan. 10, 2007) -- Ohio University Students have the opportunity to win a $250 gift card to Baker University Center and be a part of history by naming the center's food court. Auxiliary Services partnered with Students Senate to sponsor a food court naming contest.
"We want students to have the chance to create history and make their mark on the newest addition to campus," said Emily Howard, marketing manager for Auxiliary Services.
Beginning Jan. 10, graduate and undergraduate students can submit their proposals through an online survey. Until 11 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 24, students can offer multiple names and suggestions. From there, a committee composed of representative(s) from each of the five university senates will choose the winning name.
The name will be revealed in mid-February.
Students have the liberty to decide what they want to submit, but Ohio University will not accept any names discriminating against race, color, religion, national origin, sex, veteran status, sexual orientation or disability. Names will be accepted in chronological order, meaning that if two or more people submit the same name and that name wins, the first person that submitted the name will prevail.
The judges will be looking for creativity and something that ties in with the Ohio University campus. Also, students are encouraged to include reasons why they chose their name so the judges can get an idea of the student's thought process.
"The university wants to give students the ability to create ownership for the food court and the building," Howard said. "The new Baker University Center is a gathering place for the campus community and we hope people will make an effort to take ownership through this contest."
