ATHENS, Ohio (Jan. 9, 2007) -- The Ohio University Childcare Task Force is conducting a Web-based survey of Ohio University employees and students and the local community in order to identify specific childcare needs in the Athens area.
Wayne Chiasson, Todd Myers, and Amy Taylor-Bianco led the development of the survey and are working with ILGARD to administer it.
"The Childcare Task Force is working diligently to provide the university and the Athens community with better childcare options," said Associate Vice President for Finance and Administration Terry Conry. "The survey results will be one of the most important pieces in the process because it allows us to proceed with fact-based decisions."
The Childcare Task Force is a result of Ohio University’s strategic plan, Vision OHIO. During the development of the strategic plan, the university recognized the need for more childcare options in the Athens area as a common theme.
In response to the need, Ohio University Provost Kathy Krendl commissioned the task force. She charged the task force with researching the childcare needs of the Athens community, particularly university employees and students, and recommending solutions back to her.
Since its creation, the task force has developed a partnership with the Athens Area Chamber of Commerce and the Corporation for Ohio Appalachian Development in order to help involve the community in the process. In mid-December, the task force sent a courtesy letter to local childcare providers informing them on the process and inviting their participation in reviewing the survey results and attending the open forum.
Results from the survey are expected to be ready in late February. In March, the university will host an open forum to discuss the survey results and gather feedback.
