ATHENS, Ohio (Feb. 23, 2007) -- The Friends of the Libraries of Ohio University are sponsoring a panel program on "The Friends of Women." The program will begin at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27, in the Friends of the Library Room (Alden 319).
The panelists are Ann Brown, director of the Office of Nationally Competitive Awards ONCA), Honors Tutorial College; Phyllis Bernt, chair of Faculty Senate; Kathleen Bonte, Women in Philanthropy Initiative and adviser for Chi Omega sorority; and Judith Grant, director of the Women's Studies Program. Friends of the Libraries Program Chair Catherine Brown will moderate the panel.
"During the University's Year of the Woman," said Catherine Brown. "We are interested in discussing the ways women are influencing or can influence the institution. I'm confident this can be a lively program."
Through Ann Brown's program, Ohio University students won several prestigious research awards including one each George Mitchell, Barry Goldwater and Morris Udall awards in 2006. Bernt also serves as a professor in the McClure School of Information and Telecommunication Systems, Scripps College of Communication. Bonte is senior director of donor relations and gift administration in the Development Office. Grant has a joint appointment as director of Women's Studies and professor of Political Science.
The Friends of the Libraries were established in 1979 to provide support for library collections and operations.
