Ohio University School of Dance presents its Annual Winter Dance Concert

ATHENS, Ohio (Feb. 21, 2007) -- The Ohio University School of Dance Winter Dance Concert '07 will be presented at 8 p.m. Thursday, March 1, through Saturday, March 3.  A matinee will be performed at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 3. All performances will be in the Elizabeth Baker Theater, Kantner Hall, on the Ohio University Athens campus.

Winter Dance Concert '07 presents premier works choreographed by faculty and performed by student dancers. The concert will include a reprise of "Angels Unawares," by Travis Gatling, associate professor of dance.

In recreating the dance, which premiered in 2006, Gatling said, "I've noticed that the dancers who performed this work before bring a higher level of commitment and artistry to it.  They seem to be finding a more personal and deeper meaning in the work as well as developing a better kinesthetic awareness that they may not have experienced before."

Assistant Professor of Dance Zelma Badu-Younge's piece, titled "Kothbiro" (meaning "It's going to rain") is inspired by the HIV/AIDS epidemic in Africa. It will feature senior-dance major, Yuju Wei.

John Bohuslawsky, School of Dance technical director and lighting designer, will also present a piece titled "Ties that Bind" danced by Julie Feddern.

Ruben Graciani's new work for 13 dancers, "I, Of The Storm" also premieres with other works choreographed by faculty members Mickie Geller and Marina Walchli. Graciani will also perform "Untitled #9" from his solo repertoire.

Tickets are $11 for general admission and $8 for the matinee. For more information, call 740-593-4800 or visit www.finearts.ohio.edu/dance.
