Campus art gallery hop planned for Parents Weekend, Feb. 16-18

ATHENS, Ohio (Feb. 13, 2007) -- Be creative with your Parent's Weekend plans, and treat your folks to a campus gallery hop. Enjoy free exhibitions and refreshments at four participating galleries: The Kennedy Museum of Art at the Ridges, the Multicultural Center Gallery and Trisolini Gallery -- both in the new Baker Center -- and the Ohio University Art Gallery in Seigfred Hall.

The Kennedy Museum of Art just opened a new exhibition: "Behind the Mask: African Art from the Ellen Hobbs Collection and the Kennedy Museum of Art." The exhibit explores masks from West and Central Africa in their cultural contexts. Also on display: "Weaving is Life," featuring four generation of Navajo weavers, and "Truth in Looking," iconic images by James Karales, photojournalist of the Civil Rights Movement.

The Mulicultural Center Gallery presents "We Are All One in Dolls," selections from the Tanya Thompson Collection. Thompson owns more than one hundred dolls that span the globe, some dating back to 1915. She refers to the collection as "the family of man," as it represents the diversity and commonality of the human experience.

The Ohio University Art Gallery features the Second Year Graduate Student Exhibition, which shows artwork by second-year graduate students from Ohio University's Departments of Painting, Sculpture, Printmaking, Ceramics and Photography.

The Trisolini Gallery offers "Alter Egos: Drawings and Prints by Christopher Ganz". Ganz utilizes self-portraiture to merge external and internal realities, presenting a unique opportunity to get inside the artist's head.
