ATHENS, Ohio (Feb. 2, 2007) -- Ohio University Director of Athletics Kirby Hocutt and Vice President for Finance and Administration Bill Decatur will speak with Student Senate and the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee at a special informational session to be held on Monday, Feb. 5, at 6 p.m. in the Walter Hall Governance Room.
Hocutt will give a detailed presentation to explain the athletic department's decision to eliminate the men's swimming and diving, men's indoor and outdoor track and field and the women's lacrosse programs after the 2006-07 season. Decatur will provide information about the university's overall budget planning process and other financial issues.
The special meeting was scheduled in response to the Jan. 31 Student Senate resolution in opposition of the athletic department's decision. Student Senate is disappointed that student input was not used in the decision. The resolution also calls for public disclosure of the financial numbers and Title IX considerations that led athletics to its decision.
"Student Senate is excited to see such a quick response to our resolution, and we thank Mr. Hocutt for his willingness to answer our questions," said Student Senate President Morgan Allen. "We are looking forward to Monday, and hope our questions can be fully answered at this open dialogue."
The meeting is open to the public.
