Buy a ticket to the GMAC Bowl and donate it to send a kid to the game
ATHENS, Ohio (Dec. 21, 2006) -- For Bobcat fans seeking last-minute holiday giving ideas, the perfect gift is a few clicks away. You can still get in on the Ohio Athletics program that lets fans purchase tickets to the GMAC Bowl and donate them to the athletic department for distribution to Mobile-area organizations, which will use them to send kids to the game.
The athletic department is distributing the donated tickets to the Mobile Special Olympics, Boys and Girls Club of South Alabama and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metropolitan Mobile YMCA.
"A lot of our kids aren’t able to go to things like this," said Aimee Rivera, program director for the Boys and Girls Club of South Alabama. "They'll be there first hand to experience it instead of hearing it on TV or on the radio. I know they're excited."
Tickets are $45. Fans can buy tickets either by calling the Ohio Athletics ticket office at 1-800-575-CATS or by visiting www.ohiobobcats.com. Donations will be accepted until 6 p.m. on Dec. 29.
The Jan. 7 game versus Southern Mississippi will be the Bobcats' first bowl appearance since 1968. Ohio won its first Mid-American Conference East Division championship this year and has a 9-4 overall record.
"This program is a way for Bobcat fans who cannot be in attendance to show their support for Ohio University and to show their appreciation for people in Mobile and the GMAC bowl," said Chris Delisio, associate director of athletics for development.
Fans who want to donate by calling the ticket office can simply tell the attendant they would like to donate their purchase. To donate via www.ohiobobcats.com, click on the GMAC Bowl Central icon located on the front page. After submitting your order, click on the 2007 GMAC Bowl link found on the left side of the screen. Click on the small box, designating the tickets to be donated and then choose "Donate selected tickets" from the drop-down menu. Click on the "Select Tickets & Continue" option before confirming that the tickets will be donated to the Mobile charities.
Information on tickets and travel packages is available on www.ohiobobcats.com or by calling the Ohio Athletics Ticket Office at 1-800-575-CATS.
