LANCASTER, Ohio (Dec. 1, 2006) -- The 2007 Lancaster Festival will kick off its holiday fundraising with "George Winston in concert, an intimate night of solo piano" at Ohio University-Lancaster's Wagner Theatre on Wednesday, Dec. 13, at 7:30 p.m.
Critics have said Winston is a consummate contemporary instrumental composer, interpreter and performer who's achieved both commercial and critical success. Others have noted that Winston's lilting, lyrical piano style conjures seasonal images in impressionist, musical paintings.
He draws on R&B, jazz, blues, pop and folk for his compositions and interpretations, creating a dynamic and moving blend.
Winston performs more than 100 season-inspired solo piano concerts a year worldwide. His concerts feature a variety of styles, including his melodic folk piano, stride piano, New Orleans R&B piano and Vince Guaraldi's "Peanuts" pieces.
The musical performance is driven by a diverse assortment of inspirations, including a deep-rooted realization that his craft is still evolving, his desire to bring music to life through live performances, musical interpretation of other composers' works and the recording and production of albums that have influenced and inspired him. Constantly traveling, he draws inspiration from the places and people he encounters.
Tickets are $25 each and a limited number of $10 tickets are available for students. Winston's appearance is sponsored in part by Vorys, Sater, Seymour and Pease LLP.
