LANCASTER, Ohio (April 24, 2007) -- Slip into those saddle shoes, grab your ginchiest threads and your bowling ball, and rev up your rocket and prepare to party as Ohio University Lancaster celebrates "educating and enriching lives since 1956."
The celebratory weekend of May 10 to 12 rolls off on Thursday with a student, faculty, and staff bowling night from 9 to 11 p.m. at Tiki Lanes. Participants will receive special anniversary T-shirts and will enjoy free bowling (with ID) to 50s music.
The Campus and River Valley Rods and Customs are looking for cool cats and their chariots for the Cruise In that will take place from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 11, in the north parking lot. Stan the Man will deliver us to coolville with tunes. There is a $5 entry fee and the first 150 cars to the bash will receive commemorative dash plaques. The Fab Fifties vehicle, the Cruisers' Choice, and the Committee's Choice each will receive a trophy.
Salih Ulker, hip DJ from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, will spin the boss sounds during the Sock Hop, to be held in the Brasee Hall Gymnasium, from 8 to 11 p.m. Make the Scene
The Cruise In and the Sock Hop are free and open to the public. Refreshments will be available for purchase from the staff of The Zone, the campus' food service.
