Ohio University student Ashley Edes has been recognized by the National Residence Hall Honorary for her work as a resident assistant (RA).
Edes is the administrative resident assistant in Bush Hall on East Green. The student residence life staff plays an important role in further enhancing the college experience for students living in the university's residence halls. Among their responsibilities are coordinating educational and social programs, fostering a sense of community, addressing student concerns and administering university policies.
Inspired by the support she received from her RA when she was a freshman, Edes decided that she, too, wanted to help her fellow students.
"I became an RA out of a desire to help people," Edes said. "When I first lived in a residence hall, I went to my resident assistant often and she was a good resource to me. I wanted to be a good resource to others and show them how to make the most of the opportunities available to them at Ohio University."
Ohio University Residence Life is accepting applications for Resident Assistant and Security Aide positions until Oct. 14.
Resident assistants receive their own room at half of the double room rate. Their salary plus savings on a room is $4,243 per year. A security aide's salary averages $2,881 per year while also receiving $25 of Bobcat Cash per quarter.
Interested students can apply online at www.ohio.edu/reslife/jobs/ra_app.cfm, or by stopping by any of the three green offices or the central office at 037 Scott Quad.
