Ohio University to host Homecoming 2005 this weekend

ATHENS, Ohio (Oct. 19, 2005) -- The Ohio University Alumni Association announced that this year's theme for Homecoming 2005 is "It's a Bobcat Thing." The activities run from Thursday Oct. 20 through Sunday Oct. 23 and will include:

Thursday, Oct. 20

"It's a Bobcat Thing" begins at 7 p.m. with the Student Alumni Board's annual "Yell Like Hell" pep rally. The Ohio football team, Head Coach Frank Solich, Director of Athletics Kirby Hocutt, and President Roderick J. McDavis, will join the Marching 110 and the Ohio Cheerleaders at Peden Stadium to excite and energize the crowd.

Friday, Oct. 21

The Alumni Awards Gala and Dessert Reception sponsored by the Ohio University Alumni Association, will honor 10 outstanding Ohio University alumni at 7 p.m. in the Templeton-Blackburn Alumni Memorial Auditorium. The opening reception begins at 6 p.m. Ohio U.S. Senator George Voinovich is one of 10 outstanding alumni who will be honored. It is a black-tie event and open to the public. Business-dressed students are encouraged to attend. Tickets are $25. Attendees are welcome to attend the dessert reception in the East Lobby following the conclusion of the event.

Saturday, Oct. 22

Saturday morning's festivities begin at 9 a.m. with an Alumni Open House at Konneker Alumni Center. The event will feature games and refreshments for people of all ages.

The Homecoming Parade begins at 10 a.m. and will travel through uptown Athens and various streets on campus. The University Program Council (UPC) is spearheading the Homecoming Parade, which will feature the Marching 110, the Ohio University Alumni Band and an assortment of floats.

Ohio University is encouraging parade participants to recycle the reusable materials on their floats at the Central Classroom parking lot after the parade.

Immediately following the parade, alumni, students and Athens community members are invited to the Homecoming Festival at Pepsi Tailgreat Park (located at the corners of Richland and Shafter) from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. This family-friendly activity will include inflatable games, music, food and more.

The excitement continues on Saturday when the football team plays the Ball State Cardinals at Peden Stadium at 2 p.m. The Marching 110 and its Alumni Band will perform at halftime and after the game. Ohio University students can get tickets at Peden Stadium or the Convocation Center ticket office (with their student ID). Non-students should call 1-800-575-CATS for ticket information.
