ST. CLAIRSVILLE, Ohio (Nov. 14, 2005) -- Dr. Paula McMurray-Schwarz, associate professor at Ohio University Eastern, was recently elected Vice President for Conferences for the National Association of Early Childhood Teacher Educators (NAECTE).
McMurray-Schwarz has been involved in the early childhood education field for over 25 years and has taught prospective teachers at OUE since 1999. She will officially take office on Dec. 8 and is responsible for planning NAECTE's biannual conferences. In December, she will travel to Washington, D.C. to begin planning the June 2006 conference.
"It is an honor to be elected to this position for NAECTE," said McMurray-Schwarz, "I will strive to plan compelling conferences that reflect out members' current interests in early childhood teacher education and result in positive, proactive outcomes that have the potential to make a difference for children and families."
NAECTE began in 1977 as an organization for early childhood educators. Members meet and discuss issues specific to early childhood teachers and advocate for improvements in the field. The association has developed into a dynamic and active professional organization. McMurray-Schwarz has been a member for 12 years and served as a regional representative for 3 years.
"This is another example of the quality of the faculty on the Eastern Campus when you have one of your faculty members elected Vice President for Conferences for a national organization," says Dr. Paul E. Bibbins Jr., dean of Ohio University Eastern. "I am confident Dr. McMurray-Schwarz will do an outstanding job."
