ATHENS, Ohio (Nov. 1, 2005) -- The Ohio University Singers and Choral Union will perform Wednesday, Nov. 2, at 8 p.m. The free concert will be held at First United Methodist Church, located at 2 S. College St. in Athens, Ohio.
Audience members will hear a variety of music; members of the Ohio University Symphony will play in a Vivaldi piece, and members of the Ohio University African Drumming Ensemble will be featured in "Sorida," a Zimbabwe greeting.
Most of the Ohio University Singers are music majors. The mixed group features between 50 and 60 singers and serves as a professional training ground for students planning careers as vocal performers and choral music educators. The singers have toured Ohio and performed on National Public Radio, and in the summer of 2004, traveled overseas to take part in a European concert tour.
The Choral Union is a mixed ensemble comprised of students, faculty, and townspeople, and the group often collaborates with the Ohio University Singers and the Ohio University Orchestra to perform choral works. Recently, the group has performed Orff's famous "Carmina Burana" and Brahms' "Requiem."
