ATHENS, Ohio (May 17, 2005) -- The Ohio Board of Regents will conduct its monthly meeting on Thursday, May 18, at the Ohio University Eastern Campus (OUE) and Belmont Technical College (BTC) in St. Clairsville, Ohio.
Media and the public are welcome at the morning committee meetings beginning at 9 a.m. on the OUE campus, where much of the information sharing and deliberation of the board occurs. The Ohio Board of Regents will hold its monthly board meeting at BTC at 1:30 pm.
From 2 to 2:45 pm at BTC, Joseph Bukowski, Belmont Technical College president, and Paul E. Bibbins, Ohio University Eastern dean, will present, "Collaborations and Seamless Transitions in a Joint Degree Program." This presentation will discuss the joint associate degree program, which allows participating transfer and degree-seeking students to take courses from both Belmont Technical College and Ohio University Eastern, thereby enabling them to earn an associate of arts degree which will be conferred by and carry the names of both institutions.
David Mertz, associate professor of building preservation and restoration, and BTC students Roberta Hood and Cathy Sentra will present "Teaching and Learning: Building and Preservation Trades Programs Initiatives at Belmont Technical College."
Concluding the presentations will be Mark Waters, biologist at Ohio University Eastern. He will present "Snakes and Undergraduates" a presentation about student involvement in his research on the foraging ecology of queen snakes, a species found in many creeks and streams in the Ohio Valley. Votes on resolutions will be taken.
The Ohio Board of Regents is the coordinating body for higher education in the state. Created in 1963 by the General Assembly, the 11-member public board has a direct, non-governing relationship with all of Ohio's colleges and universities.
