ATHENS, Ohio (June 19, 2006) -- On Monday, June 19, Ohio University will spring back to life as summer session courses begin. Monday also marks the start of an entire summer of fun, jam-packed with events and activities for students and community members alike. Summer Celebration 2006 offers a wide array of planned events sure to provide a break from study and work.
Planned activities include movies, theater performances, concerts, an amusement park trip, cornhole tournaments, intramural sports, a summer book club and more. The wide variety offers something for everyone: students, faculty members and families will find plenty to occupy their time in Athens this summer.
The summer movie series offers movies every Monday and Tuesday night. Monday movies are shown inside Seigfred Hall in Mitchell Auditorium and Tuesday movies are shown on the West Portico of Memorial Auditorium. Tuesday evenings are sure to be a hit with Family Nights on the Green. The evenings will be filled with family-friendly activities such as COSI and visitors from the Columbus Zoo, as well as musicians, comedians, and magicians. Thursday evenings bring Arts on the Green, with a wide assortment of musicians from Athens and afar. Wednesdays offer even more music performances on College Green, with several free concerts scheduled apiece by the Communiversity Band and the Bastin/Remonko Jazztet. All of the above listed events are free and open to the public.
