ATHENS, Ohio (Jan. 26, 2006) -- Stemming from the charge set forth in Vision OHIO, today Ohio University took an important step toward shaping the future of its graduate education and research and creative activity priorities with the appointment of the Graduate Education and Research Board.
The board will play a critical role in identifying initiatives for special investment that hold promise for elevating and improving graduate education, focusing on the distinctiveness and prominence of graduate programs, and identifying research and creative activity priorities.
A number of existing committees and offices have specific responsibilities related to graduate education and research and creative activity. However, none has the specific task articulated in Vision OHIO as critical to the institution's future: responding to emerging opportunities and identifying new areas that can be cultivated for future growth and investment.
The composition of the Graduate Education and Research Board draws on the membership of established bodies, the faculty at large, and the academic leadership, bringing these representatives together with a new focus on developing processes and initiatives that will target Ohio University's graduate and research and creative activity investments in the areas of greatest potential impact.
"The appointment of this group is an important step in realizing the goals of Vision OHIO and positioning Ohio University for the future," said Provost Kathy Krendl, "One that we expect to contribute significantly to building national prominence for the institution."
