ATHENS, Ohio – The fourth annual Christine Wilson Memorial 5K Walk/Run will be held at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, May 13, in Dublin, Ohio, to honor Christine Wilson, one of five college students who died in a house fire near Ohio State University in April 2003. Ohio University students Andrea Dennis and Erin DeMarco and Ohio State students Alan Schlessman and Kyle Raulin also perished.
Tim Wilson, Christine's father, hopes to make this year's run the biggest in Central Ohio, and expects the event to cater to more than 1,000 participants. The 5K is also a special way to incorporate Christine's love of track and to celebrate her life.
Proceeds will go toward two annual scholarships at Bishop Watterson High School (her alma mater) established in Wilson's name. Additional annual charity contributions from Christine's Foundation will continue to be donated to various organizations such as Children's Hospital Burn Unit, Childhood League of Columbus, The Christ Child Society and the Juvenile Arthritis Foundation.
The Christine Wilson Foundation was founded when the Wilson family and a couple of their friends formed a charitable, nonprofit 501 C3 foundation in her memory to turn this tragedy into a positive and to reach out to help others in the community. The founding four trustees include friends of the Wilson family, Mark King and Dean Knisley; Christine's sister, Elizabeth Wilson; and her father, Tim.
