ATHENS, Ohio (updated April 13, 2006) -- Grover Center is operating on a limited basis to accommodate students and staff while crews work around-the-clock to repair water damage caused by a valve failure earlier this week.
According to Associate Vice President for Planning and Implementation John Kotowski, a valve failure in the chilled water piping system caused a 3-inch pipe to burst. Meter readings from a year ago are being consulted to estimate the amount of water that entered the building. A student reported the water leak at about 2 a.m. Monday.
Kotowski said most of the building's systems, including the mechanical and plumbing systems, were not damaged. Computers, walls, ceilings, carpeting, books and furniture did sustain damage. A damage estimate is expected to be available in about two weeks. The university has a $100,000 deductible as part of its insurance policy on Grover Center, including the building and its contents, as it does with all university buildings.
WellWorks
WellWorks is closed until further notice. The offices only have been relocated to Grover W258. Office hours are Monday-Friday 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday-Sunday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. They will accept membership renewals, but will not be taking new membership enrollments at this time.
Group Exercise. Classes resumed Monday, April 10, including Yoga. Please be aware that there is no access to the WellWorks locker rooms and there is no childcare.
Fitness Center. Members can attend the Ping Center or the Athens Community Center. Please remember that WellWorks members are guests at these facilities and cannot bring in guests.
Massage. Services will resume at the Ping Center beginning Thursday, April 13. SCHEDULE appointments at WellWorks, 593-2093, and PAY at Ping.

Ohio University Therapy Associates, which provides hearing, speech, language and physical therapy services, is open. These accommodations are expected to continue for at least two weeks.
