ZANESVILLE, Ohio (Oct. 20, 2004) -- Twenty-one Ohio University-Zanesville students recently completed twenty-four hours of training conducted by Colleen Romito, Jumpstart Site Manager. Training topics included child development, citizenship, family involvement, child guidance, early language and literacy and dialogic reading strategies. The students will use these skills to reinforce their education, to inspire children to learn, adults to teach, families to get involved and communities to progress together.
Jumpstart-Zanesville hosted a Teddy Bear Family Orientation Picnic on Oct. 7 at Careytown Child Care Center to welcome family members and children who will participate in the program. The Jumpstart program is designed to help prepare children for future school success. In the program University students provide children who begin the school year with skills rated similar to or lower than their peers with one-on-one attention that helps them make statistically significant greater progress in early language and literacy, social and initiative skill areas by the end of the program year.
