Female Appalachian artists invited to participate in art show

ZANESVILLE, Ohio (Sept. 1, 2004) -- Female artists from the Appalachian counties in Ohio are invited to submit work to be exhibited at the 5th Annual Women of Appalachia Art Show. The show runs from Oct. 28 through Nov. 18 on the Ohio University Zanesville Campus. The deadline to submit entries is Sept. 17.

A new category added this year to the show, "traditional Appalachian crafts," encompasses jewelry, wood, pottery and basketry. The category of "traditional fine arts" includes the areas of paintings, drawings, sculpture and photography. Cash prizes will be given for the winning piece in each category. Female artists who have little experience with juried exhibits are encouraged to participate.

The Women of Appalachia Art Show is one of the events taking place during the Women of Appalachia: Their Heritage and Accomplishments Conference being held Oct. 28 and 29.
