ATHENS, Ohio (July 29, 2005) -- V. Ann Paulins, Ph.D., director of the School of Human and Consumer Services and professor of human and consumer sciences has been named chair of the Ohio University Chairs and Directors Council.
Paulins' academic work focuses on the social psychology of consumption decisions and on customer service interactions. She researches professional development in retail including internship development, ethics, service-learning and customer service quality. Paulins also supervises retail merchandising internships.
"I look forward to working with the chairs and directors at Ohio University as we navigate initiatives such as the strategic plan and grapple with budgetary challenges," Paulins said. "Chairs and directors play a key role in implementing the work of the university, so we will have a busy year ahead."
Chairs and directors from Ohio University's 58 academic schools and departments make up the Chairs and Directors Council.
"We are a frontline of faculty leaders and a forum for networking among schools and departments and interacting with the dean and provost," Paulins said. "Our job is to build a bridge to make things happen."
The council meets to discuss long-term implementations of policy, present ideas and affect changes at Ohio University. They also serve as a liaison between the faculty and college administrators.
Paulins replaces Louis E. Wright, who is retiring from full-time teaching after 35 years at the university. In addition to serving as council chair for the past two years, Wright served as professor and chair of the Physics and Astronomy Department.
