ATHENS, Ohio (May 25, 2005) -- Ohio University President Roderick McDavis met with the local media on May 25 to update them on some of the university's latest initiatives.
McDavis announced that Eastman & Beaudine of Dallas, Texas, has been hired to assist the university with its search for a director of athletics. The company is widely regarded as one of the premier executive search firms in the nation, and is regarded as one of the top 50 out of more than 4,000 recruiting firms in North America.
He also announced that he has finalized the 21-member search committee to find a permanent director of athletics. The school hopes to fill the position by the end of July.
On May 18, Senior Associate Athletics Director Amy Dean was named interim director of athletics effective June 16. Current Ohio University Director of Athletics Thomas Boeh was announced as the new director of athletics at California State University, Fresno, on May 13.
McDavis told the media that the university's concerted efforts to increase undergraduate enrollment for the 2005-06 academic year, especially among multicultural students, is paying dividends. He announced that multicultural applications are up 18.5 percent, multicultural admissions are up 18.4 percent and multicultural student housing deposits are up 56 percent. He also said he is proud of the fact that the number of housing deposits for all incoming students is 4,198, which is nearly 400 more than last year. The university has significantly passed its goal of enrolling at least 3,800 incoming students for the fall 2005 quarter.
He credited the increases to increased efforts by the entire university, especially faculty and the admissions office.
Finally, he invited the media to attend the annual Leadership Recognition Reception on Wednesday, June 1, at 7 p.m. in the Baker University Ballroom. He said more than 24 students will be recognized at the banquet for their role in leadership on campus.
