ATHENS, Ohio (May 20, 2005) -- Ohio University Without Boundaries is accepting course proposals for the winter intersession 2005-2006 at this time. Please consider this teaching opportunity during the winter break, November 28-December 16. Please check our website www.ouwb.ohiou.edu/intersession.html for additional information and access to the required planning/approval documents.
Winter intersession provides a number of options for students and faculty. Intersession 2004 provided 359 students with their Tier III class. Departments that have classes with high enrollments can take advantage of intersession to offer an additional section of that class, such as Business Law 255. Other departments may take advantage of Intersession to offer classes that are required for specific majors but have low enrollments. Because resources may make it impractical to offer such courses during the regular academic year, offering them during intersession can be an acceptable alternative. Over 450 students from Athens, Lancaster and Chillicothe campuses took advantage of winter intersession 2004.
Winter intersession courses are offered in a compressed format. Faculty members choose to offer an Intersession course in a one, two or three week format. Contact hours per day depend on the length of time the faculty member chooses to teach the course. Library hours are extended during winter intersession to insure that students have sufficient access while studying.
Course grades for winter intersession will appear on the winter 2006 grade report. Fees for winter intersession classes are paid separately and are not part of either fall or winter comprehensive fees. Therefore, registration for a winter intersession course will not prevent a student from registering for 20 credits during the regular winter quarter.
Faculty members will be paid on an overload contract using the overload pay scale for winter intersession courses. Deadline for submission of planning documents is July 22. A delay in placing a course in the schedule of classes has a negative effect on the course enrollments. Students begin checking for winter intersession courses during the summer. All approved courses will be listed and regularly added to the registrar’s web page but for inclusion in the printed schedule, courses should be submitted as soon as possible.
