ATHENS, Ohio (May 19, 2005) -- Ohio University President Roderick McDavis has appointed Amy Dean as the interim director of athletics, effective June 16. She will serve in the position until a permanent director of athletics is named to replace Thomas Boeh, who announced on Friday, May 13, that he has accepted the position of athletic director at California State University, Fresno. His last day in the office will be June 15.
"We are very pleased that Ms. Dean has agreed to serve as our interim director of athletics," McDavis said. "I believe she is the ideal person to serve in this most important position."
Dean is responsible for the business and personnel matters in the athletic department and serves as its senior women's administrator. She also supervises the varsity soccer, field hockey, lacrosse, wrestling, baseball and softball programs, as well as the athletic training, equipment and facilities operations. She is the administrative chair for the Mid-American Conference sports of baseball and field hockey.
She began working at Ohio University in November 1999, when she was hired as assistant athletic director for business and personnel. In 2001, she was promoted to associate athletic director for business and administration. In 2004, she was elevated to senior associate athletic director for business and administration.
"I would like to thank Dr. McDavis for giving me this opportunity and entrusting me with the leadership of this department during this critical period of transition," Dean said. "I would also like to thank Thomas Boeh for the support and guidance he has given me. My goal is to keep the department moving forward during this transition and not allow it to become stagnant until a new director of athletics is hired."
Prior to joining Ohio University, Dean worked for the U.S. Army as the installation sports director at Fort Bliss in Texas. In that role, she managed a comprehensive sports program for an installation of more than 17,000 soldiers and their families. She also has worked for the U.S. Army at Fort Benning in Georgia as the facility manager, which made her responsible for the daily operation of the Officer's Club Family Fitness Center. Other work experiences include event coordinator at the Indiana Convention Center and Hoosier Dome and assistant general manager for the Indianapolis Checkers of the International Hockey League.
Dean earned a bachelor's degree from Miami University in 1985 and a master's degree in sports administration from Ohio University in 1986.
A native of Springfield, Ohio, Dean is the daughter of former Wittenberg University athletics director and football coach Bob Rosencrans. Her husband, Mark, is an assistant professor in military science at Ohio University. The couple has two teenage children, Megan and Kyle.
McDavis also announced that he is forming a search committee to find a permanent replacement for Boeh that will be chaired by College of Health and Human Services Dean Gary Neiman.
