ATHENS, Ohio (March 31, 2005) -- Ohio University has announced a new effort to address room and board rate increases and to ensure undergraduate students' continued access to the excellent educational opportunities at the university.
The combined cost of room and board for on-campus students will increase by only 2 percent for the 2005-06 academic year. Savings will be created by the reorganization of the Division of Finance and Administration. This reorganization will both address budgetary issues and provide greater administrative efficiencies by reassigning and realigning specific supervisory and administrative functions.
The discontinuation of 17 positions, including five currently filled positions, six vacant administrative positions and six vacant bargaining unit positions will result in base budget savings of $1.1 million.
"Obviously, some university staff members will be affected by this reorganization. For the five university employees affected by this reorganization, I have asked our Human Resources staff to help them find new positions and provide outplacement assistance as needed," said interim Vice President for Finance and Administration Larry Corrigan. "We continue to search for ways to keep an Ohio University education affordable for our students. While these decisions are difficult, we will continue to focus on ensuring that an Ohio University education is accessible for every qualified student."
The specific positions that are currently filled and are affected by this restructuring include:
- Associate Vice President for Administration, Facilities and Auxiliaries
- Director of Housing and Food Service
- Supervisor, Oracle HR/Payroll Services Developer
- Assistant Director, Facilities Management for Program Development
- Associate Director, Residential Operational Services
The six vacant administrative positions are:
- Assistant Director - Dining Services
- Assistant Director - Dining Services
- Assistant Manager - Shively Dining Hall
- Assistant Manager - Boyd Dining Hall
- Banquet Coordinator - Nelson Dining Hall
- Assistant Director - Custodial Services
The six vacant bargaining unit positions are:
- 4 Custodial workers
- 2 Food Service workers
The five individuals' contracts expire June 30. The transition of responsibility will begin immediately.
